How often do you catch yourself with a snack in the middle of the night? Have you noticed sudden outbreaks of headache, out of the blue sadness or an inexplicable anxiety feeling about who knows what? Congratulations, now you`re a real student and your diagnosis is stress!
Each year there are more and more students claiming they feel stressed and it`s not a joke! Having tough schedule, many hours in class with a lot of new subjects you must learn, worries about financial side, academics and plans for the nearest future don’t go by unnoticed by the body. Did you know that stress is the #1 factor in academic disruption? Statistic says that 1 out of 5 feels too stressed to study or be with friends, and considers dropping out of school because of this.
Yet, stress isn’t only about your mental health, but about your physical condition as well: insomnia, headaches, skin problems, backaches, nervous tics, recurrent infections, and heart diseases – these are just a small amount of problems you get.
Even if you`re college isn`t on our Top Five Most Stressful you should keep an eye on your mental health and find time to relief stress. Get a long walk after classes instead of taking a bus, sign in for a sewing class or yoga, or just volunteer in a cat shelter – breaking up the routine is a good solution. And never be ashamed or afraid of seeking for help (counselors are great source of emotional support through stressful times).
