The scientific research paper outline includes Title, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments and Literature Cited.
Title - This should indicate what the rest of the essay is all about. It should be appropriate for your intended audience. The title should be self-explanatory and give a clear idea about what is to come. The title should include research paper title, the name of the school, city, state and the date. It should be informative, descriptive and concise.

Abstract - The abstract gives a concise idea of the content of the paper. In 200-250 words, the abstract should state the purpose of the essay, results and the conclusions. It should be a brief restatement of what is written in the paper.
Detailed descriptions, tables, methods or works cited are generally not included here. It is generally written at the very end. A good way to write an abstract is to just gather the main points from every section of the paper and then use them to write a brief description of the paper.
Introduction - While writing the introduction, make sure that it does not become very broad. Keep in mind that you are writing for people with a similar background. Quickly present the problem that you investigated, some background information about the same and get started with the rest of the paper. The introduction should explain the objectives of the research and why the work was done.
Materials and methods - This section contains details of how, where and when the experiment was conducted. The apparatus, the experimental design and methods of collecting data is explained here. While writing the section keep in mind that this section should be broad enough so that anybody who has some knowledge of scientific techniques can use it if he or she wishes to. The procedures that were followed, the special chemicals, instruments and organism that were used are also mentioned here.
Results - This is where you can write the summarized data using narrative text and also figures and tables where required. This section will contain just the results. Here there is no need to offer any interpretation of the data or any summary of what the data is all about.
Discussions - In this section, you can interpret the data, discuss the experiments and explain the results in detail. Organize this section neatly and ensure that the points flow naturally and logically.
Conclusions - The summary will show what you concluded from the data and should relate to the problem mentioned in the introduction. You need not write about the reasons for coming to these conclusions. The reasons will be discussed in the Discussions section. Your introduction and conclusion should be such that just by reading these two sections, the reader will be able to know what you have investigated and what conclusions you have derived from your experiments.
Acknowledgements - Here you need to give credit to all those people who have helped you in writing the paper.
Literature cited – In this section, you can list all the published work that you referred to while writing the paper. You can make a list in alphabetical order with the name of the author. It provides the readers with information about the sources should they want to refer to the original works. Note that this section mentions only those references that were cited in the essay. You must have read many other sources but take care to mention only those that you have used in the essay.
There are different ways of citing reference material in the paper. You can consult your instructor about the method to use in your paper. Generally, the "author-date" system is followed where the name of the author and the year of publication is included.
Accuracy, simplicity and clarity are the essential attributes of a well-written paper. You will need to keep in mind that a scientific paper is a report about experiments conducted in the past. Therefore, most of it will need to be written in the past tense. However, while stating conclusions or making generalizations, the present tense can be used, such as in the introduction, conclusion and the discussion sections. The essay should be in the form of a narrative, which describes the work that was done, and the results obtained from the same.
Center the section headings and start the body of each section immediately after the heading. There is no need to begin a section on a new page. If a section ends in the middle of the page, the next section can start immediately after that on the same page.
